From the Last Bench to the TEDx Stage

Ananya's college knew her as the girl who sat in the last bench and never raised her hand — even when she knew the answer. Especially when she knew the answer. 'My ideas felt too heavy for my voice,' she says. 'They'd reach my throat and just... stay there.'

Her first VOXEN session was a demo workshop near ITER College. She almost didn't go. 'I told myself I'd just watch from the back.' Instead, a coach pulled her into a 60-second introduction circle. Sixty seconds. She remembers counting ceiling tiles between every word.

She used to rehearse introductions in the washroom mirror. Eight months later, 800 people stood up to applaud her talk. (Placeholder story — easy to replace.)

The transformation wasn't cinematic — it was systematic. Communication Lab on Tuesdays, the Speaking Arena on Saturdays, safe-space circles when it got heavy. 'Nobody laughed at my shaking voice. They just kept handing me the mic until it stopped shaking.'

Eight months in, her mentor pushed her to apply for a city TEDx event. Her talk — 'The Volume of Silence' — was about every student who has something to say and no one teaching them how to say it. 800 people. A standing ovation. Her mother in the front row, crying.

'VOXEN didn't give me a voice,' Ananya says. 'It taught me mine was worth hearing.' She now mentors the new Ignite batch every Saturday — in the front row, mic in hand.
